Chemical Engineering Degree, Construction Past Set Templeton Apart

A colleague describes Jack Templeton as a unicorn because he brings a unique blend of personal and professional skills to 澳门足彩app's projects.

Templeton has a chemical engineering degree from the University of Nevada, but his broad experience makes him a process engineer. During his four-decade career, Templeton has worked in metallurgy, the nuclear industry, wastewater management, the federal government, construction and consumer packaged goods.

“Jack tends to find himself on more complicated projects because of his process acumen,”’ said 澳门足彩app Director of Construction Quincy McNames. “Historically, a lot more design engineers were onsite for complex projects. Those old-school engineers were very involved in the constructability of projects. They weren’t superintendents, but they were very engaged in construction.

“We’re not sure what to call Jack. He’s a process superintendent, but his technical abilities are well ahead of a process superintendent, especially in process-heavy consumer packaged goods markets.”

McNames said Templeton is a field engineer with the uncommon ability to manage contractors and schedules. His technical expertise and communication skills give him credibility with clients and their in-house engineers.

Similarly, his hands-on approach earns his fellow team members’ respect and produces optimal solutions on the production floor as he observes processes and makes modifications.

“These projects can be stressful,” McNames said. “You can find technically skilled and talented people, but Jack’s attitude, personality, friendliness and communication style make him more valuable. He’s highly adaptive, resourceful and calm. It makes it less stressful. It keeps the temperature and stress lower on these high-performing teams. That’s huge.”

Templeton, whose official title is Industrial Design Subject Matter Expert, grew up in Reno, Nevada. While it’s best known for gambling, he remembers Reno as a nice midsize family town.

“Back then, it didn’t have an IKEA or Walmart,” Templeton said. “If something broke, you fixed it. You worked on your own cars. When I was in school, I had a flair for math and loved the sciences. I knew I wanted to do something applied, so I went into chemical engineering. It was a great major for me. There are so many things you can do. It’s allowed me to have a varied career.”

In the early years of his career, Templeton worked for metallurgy companies, developing processes to refine gold, silver and copper. He gained expertise in wastewater management in the nuclear industry, which took him to Colorado. He was working for Benham when it was acquired by 澳门足彩app in 2016.

“I’ve always been around construction,” Templeton said. “I’ve done tank installations for Constellation wineries, wastewater projects for breweries, probiotic reactors for DuPont, a furnace refit for Gallo.”

Currently, Templeton is acting as the process superintendent on a dairy expansion for HP Hood in Virginia, where work is taking place while the facility continues full operations. 

“Jack was instrumental in working around the production schedules and doing what we needed to do without impacting their business,” Project Superintendent Brandon Holmes said. “In March, we had to isolate one filler from an adjacent filler. Jack knew in detail where all the pipes went and was able to isolate these fillers ahead of schedule. It was a home run. He knocked it out of the park. It was impressive how surgical he was with the shut-down window.”

Templeton lives in Colorado with Judy, his wife of 35 years. They have a grown son who is a U.S. Army major and a daughter with her doctorate in physical therapy.

“They’re not just my children. They’re now like best friends,” Templeton said. “We talk several times a week, and we do a lot of things together.

“My wife and I love to travel. We do a big trip every year or two. We’ve been to France, Italy, China, South Africa, and Ireland.”

Templeton is active in church, where he provides security. He enjoys shooting firearms, his favorite a 1911 .45 caliber pistol.

“You’ll either find me at church or at the range,” Templeton said.

Templeton said he enjoys working for 澳门足彩app.

“I like how they look at things. They take care of their people and their subcontractors. It’s a team,” he said. “At construction sites, you get that camaraderie; everyone is working toward the same goal and doing right by the customer. That’s where you get repeat business. They give me time to interact with customers to understand their needs and issues and be sure they get what they want.
